How to Share a file via OneDrive to a specific - Windows

Note: If you do not have OneDrive backing up your Desktop, Documents and Pictures directory folders, the share function will not work there. It will only work in the OneDrive folder. You will need to move or copy the file over to the OneDrive folder.

  1. Find the file you would like to send to someone and right click it.
  2. Scroll down to the "Blue Cloud" and click Share.
  3. OneDrive will bring up a Share Dialog box that looks like this.
  4. Type in the name of the person you would like to share the file with. Note: KU works on a Last name, First Name format. So if your person doesn't show up, try typing their last name first. You can also type in their full @ku.edu email address.
  5. Alternatively, you can also click the Outlook button if it is installed. This will open a new email in Outlook with a link to the file you wish to Share.
  6. Once you have the person(s) on the file, you can then add a message if you would like, then press the blue send button. This will send an email on your behalf (it will appear as if it were coming from you) to those you selected to share the file with.
