Users who have been migrated to the cloud will no longer be able to check their voicemail by calling 785-864-1900.  There are three ways to check voicemail for an account that has been migrated to the cloud: voicemail alerts in email, voicemail alerts in Skype for Business, and voicemail alerts in Microsoft Teams.

Please Note

These methods are true for both personal phone numbers and departmental phone numbers. To check a departmental voicemail, you will need to be signed in to Skype for Business with the departmental credentials or have access to the departmental email account.

Voicemail Alerts via Email

When a new voicemail is left at a phone number, the email address tied to that account will get an email alert with a transcription attached, when applicable. The transcription is an approximation of the text of the audio file, which is attached as an MP3 file that you can listen to within Outlook. This alert will look like a regular email message, with the From line being either the phone number that has called or the contact name, if the user is internal to KU. The subject line will be "Voice Mail" with the duration of the voicemail in parathesis.

Click on the message to view the details and open the audio file to listen to your voicemail.

Voicemail Alerts in Skype for Business

To check your voicemail in Skype for Business, complete the following steps.

  1. Open Skype for Business on your computer.
  2. Click the Phone icon — it looks like a dial pad.
  3. Double-click the voicemail that you want to listen to. This will open the voicemail via Outlook, where you can read the transcript and listen to the audio file.

Voicemail Alerts in Microsoft Teams

When you get a new voicemail, you will get an alert via Microsoft Teams when signed into the KU account tied to that phone number. This will come in the form of a pop-up notifications, as well as a red indicator next to the "Calls" button in the Teams application. To listen to your voicemail and view the transcript within Teams, follow the instructions below.

  1. Open the Teams application on your computer.
  2. Click the "Calls" button, and select "Voicemail."
  3. Click the Voicemail that you want to view and listen to.
  4. Click the "Play" icon to listen to the voicemail directly within Teams.
